    Follow the Montlake Way

Be Safe, Be Kind, Be Fair, Take Responsibility

    Volunteering at Montlake

The deadline for volunteering is creeping up. If you have filled out the volunteer application but have not received confirmation of volunteering, please check your forms to make sure you have submitted your ID. Your application will not be processed without an ID. You can attach a copy to your volunteer form (send Tiffany an email when you do so), you can send a copy to Tiffany at tlwalker2@seattleschools.org, or you can show your ID to Tiffany in the office. The volunteer application is required for any type of volunteering, and if you’d like to chaperone, please fill out that separate addendum. I’ve attached a link that will work whether or not the SPS website is down. You can now sign up to volunteer online. Please be reminded that if you have not filled out paperwork by October 31, 2018, you will not be allowed to volunteer during the year. Tiffany processes volunteer applications every Thursday, so you can expect a reponse the Friday after you complete the application. You can go to the SPS Volunteer website to get more information about volunteering with Seattle Public Schools, as well as access other resources like the Adult Sexual Misconduct training. Please contact Tiffany at tlwalker2@seattleschools.org if you have any questions, and thank you to the 100+ parents who have already gone through the process!!

    Picture Day Coming Up!

Picture Day forms went home in backpacks last week. Please turn those forms in to your student’s teacher. If you’d like to help during picture day from 8:00am-noon, you would be eligible to receive a $25 voucher towards school pictures. We need 2-3 volunteers. Please contact Rachel Mclellan if you want to volunteer for picture day at Rachel.a.mclellan@gmail.com

    Families in Need

Montlake is fortunate to be a supportive community that strives to provide an equitable experience for all families. This year, we are hoping to build a more comprehensive program that supports families in our community who are experiencing significant financial need. This program will provide items and experiences that will help your student while he or she is attending Montlake. Form will go home through “kid mail” and also will be attached to the main email message of the bulletin. If you are interested in receiving services through this program, please fill out this form and have your child return it to the main office. Requests are strictly confidential and will be coordinated through our administrative secretary and principal.

    Green Team & The Sounders

This year, Montlake’s Green Team was selected as a Rave Green Certified School. This is awarded by the Seattle Sounders FC because we sustained Platinum status during the 2017/18 school year. In recognition of these efforts, Sounders FC awarded our school with 60 tickets to the Sounders/Dynamo match, and a chance for green team members to meet players on the field post match! Twenty-five students were able to go on field to meet our Sounders, and over 50 people were able to attend the game. Thank you to our Green Team members for making Montlake a better and greener place.

    BuzzBook is Up and Running!

Good evening Montlake! To help us all stay better connected this school year, the Montlake PTA provides two email services for parents and staff. They are up and running and here are the instructions for using each.

    Classroom Email Distribution Lists

Sometimes you need to reach the other parents in your child’s classroom. Planning a party, finding a lost article, scheduling parent/teacher conferences. To send an email to all the parents in a classroom, send an email to Room<TeachersLastName>@MontlakePTA.org. For example, for Ms. Johnson, that would be RoomJohnson@montlakepta.org for Emily, that is RoomGussin@MontlakePTA.org, etc.

The teacher and any aides are included on these distribution lists. If you want to send an email to the class, but don’t want the teachers to see it (surprise planning!), send mail to Room<TeachersLastName>Secret@MontlakePTA.org. For example, to reach Ms. Stump’s room, without Ms. Stump, send email to RoomStumpSecret@MontlakePTA.org.

    BuzzBook Family Directory

The BuzzBook provides parents with easy access to the student directory, complete with parent contact information. It is accessible from any computer or mobile device that can send and receive email. It is always up to date as information changes and students join the school.

To use the service, send an email to BuzzBook@MontlakePTA.org with a subject line containing at least the first three letters of a name to search for - student, parent, teacher; either first or last name. For example, to look up Sophia’s information, send “soph” to BuzzBook@MontlakePTA.org. <--- Click the link to see how easy it is. Within a few seconds, the system will reply with an email containing your information.

You can also access the classroom rosters and other information through the BuzzBook. For example, send “room gussin” to BuzzBook@MontlakePTA.org to retrieve the list of students in Emily’s room. Need the names of the teachers? Send “staff”. Need to know who is on the PTA board? Send “pta”. See the bottom of each response for even more options.

What about privacy? Your first day of school packets included Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Release and Montlake Media Release forms. Among other things, these form allow for the use of your contact information for All-School and Classroom Family Directories. That is the BuzzBook. We take the privacy of our families very seriously. Through the email interface, only email addresses that actually appear in the BuzzBook have access to the information in the BuzzBook.

    School Pay

Did you know that you can pay for field trips, school supplies, and more online now? No more waiting for a check to clear, no more wondering whether or not you paid for something, and you can now pay by credit card!! School Pay is the new online payment system for the school community. It can be found through The Source, and from there, you can see if there are any pending payments. Seattle Public Schools has comprehensive information about how to use The Source, but if you have any other questions, please contact Tiffany at tlwalker2@seattleschools.org.

    Data Verification Forms

Please make sure you verify that we have the correct information for your student in PowerSchool. This includes phone numbers, addresses, who is authorized to pick up your student, and who, other than the parent, to contact in an emergency. It’s very important that every parent make sure this information is accurate in our system. You can access this information through The Source. Seattle Public Schools has comprehensive information about how to use The Source, but if you have any other questions, please contact Tiffany at tlwalker2@seattleschools.org.

    Tutors Needed!

We are looking for 3 PAID tutors for the 2018-2019 school year. As a tutor you can work up to 19 hours a week. Tutors assist in one or more classrooms, and do a variety of tasks including making copies, doing small group activities, playground supervision and more! Tutors are such a great asset to our teachers and Montlake as a whole. I If you are interested, please contact Principal Julie Pearson at jepearson@seattleschools.org

Don’t Forget to use Amazon Smile

Don’t forget to designate Montlake as the charity of choice when using Amazon Smile! Please use the name
“Montlake Community School Association Seattle Council PTA” when selecting us. Amazon Smile has already donated almost $90 million dollars to charities!

Montlake Website is Up and Running

Don’t forget that our Montlake website is a handy go-to place for calendar information, school resources and links, library news, and extracurricular activities.

Parking and School Pick up and Drop Off

Please be reminded to not park in the school bus zone before or afterschool on McGraw. When dropping off or picking up, please drive WEST on McGraw and EAST on Calhoun to ease up on traffic jams.

Please note that all bulletin announcements will run for one week only. If you would like to run your notice for more than one week, please submit a new notice each week by Monday at 10:00 a.m. to tlwalker2@seattleschools.org
