BEXV Levy Information – Thank you, Seattle Voters!

In February of 2019, Seattle voters passed the Seattle Public Schools Building Excellence V (BEXV) Capital levy, which will include building construction and improvements for Montlake as well as 7 other aging schools, as well as technology investments across the district. More information can be found here.

Montlake Elementary, which originally opened in 1924, is scheduled to receive a historic modernization and renovation in the second wave of levy projects, which means that we will remain in this building for four more physical years (2019-20 marks year one). During the 2021-22 school year, a School Design Advisory Team phase will begin that will include staff, student and community engagement. Because Montlake has been designated as a Historic Landmark, the façade and other historic aspects of the building will remain intact while the building is expanded into the space where the portables currently sit.

Montlake staff and students will move off-site during the 2023-24 school year in order for construction to begin. For the 2023-24 and 24-25 school years, we will be housed at the John Marshall building near Greenlake while construction is happening. The newly renovated building is currently scheduled to reopen its doors during the 2025-26 school year.
