Meeting News

October 8 meeting - issues discussed:

* Cafeteria noise levels and sensory issues

* Classroom systems that publicly rank children for behavior

* Educating school community on inclusion

-- Could we install sound absorbing material in the cafeteria to reduce noise? We want the children to be able to socialize. We also understand that the noise and/or smell are overwhelming for some kids.

-- Do teachers use a color system to publicly rank children's behavior? We'd like to learn more about this practice.

-- How can we encourage more compassion within our greater community (parents, teachers, staff, children). The book "How to be a friend to someone with Autism" was mentioned as an easy-to-understand blueprint for a letter to the community.
